Selections

6:30 Lingfield – Distant Light

The most informative race on the Lingfield card looks to be the Fillies’ maiden at 6:30 and DISTANT LIGHT for Andrew Balding, makes a lot of appeal. She didn’t achieve a great deal in her 2 starts as a Juvenile but showed significant improvement on her comeback over this course and distance earlier this month when 2nd to a smart Richard Hughes debutante in a decent looking contest. The fact that she was able to mix it with the Colts and Geldings bodes well as she returns to race against her own sex, and she finished that race in a manner that would suggest she will improve for the benefit of that run. Having raced prominently, she hit the front at the 2-furlong pole and although she was subsequently caught, she kept on nicely to hold 2nd place in the closing stages. Given her pedigree, she should be capable of racing at a mile and beyond in the future but has shown enough to suggest she can get her head in front in a race like this.

3:25 Catterick – Jumhoor

This Novice race has cut up quite significantly at the Final declaration stage, but although it has weakened on paper, that does make it a good opportunity for JUMHOOR to make a positive start to his career on the track. David O’Meara has his string in good form and is running at an 18% strike rate (6-33) in the last 14-days. Jumhoor is a son of Night of Thunder who cost 100,000 guineas as a Yearling and is closely related to Group 2 winners Policy of Truth and Pushkin. In a race that lacks depth, he could easily run into at least a place, with the likely Favourite Astral Beau having a penalty to carry for her win at Leicester. Beluga Gold looks the other significant danger, but he has been beaten at short odds on both starts this season and is beginning to look an awkward proposition.
