Although he probably isn’t the horse that he once was, BUVEUR D’AIR is a dual Champion hurdle winner running in a handicap and that makes him worth chancing. Nicky Henderson has had to be patient with him in recent seasons, as injury has taken its toll on his 11-year-old, but he showed enough on his last start at Aintree in April to suggest that most of his ability was still intact. The handicapper has certainly given him a chance, with a mark of 153 looking very lenient, fully 19lbs below his career peak. He may not be at the level to compete in grade 1 company these days, but the vibes from the yard have been good and he should appreciate the drop-in class. On ground that will suit, he looks to have been found a good opportunity for a last big day in the sun.
