Manchester United vs Fulham – Sunday, 4:30pm

Manchester United will be hoping to finish their Premier League season with a win as they play host to Fulham at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Key stats

  • Both teams have scored in nine of the last 11 meetings with Fulham netting at least once on their last six visits to Old Trafford.
  • Manchester United have won 18 of their last 21 meetings with Fulham at Old Trafford.
  • 38% of the goals Manchester United have conceded have come against clubs from London. Those games have averaged 3.27 goals.
  • Fulham have found the net in 13 of their 18 Premier League away matches.

Verdict

Manchester United will be hopeful of wrapping up their season with a win, but there’s no need to win after securing Champions League qualification on Thursday.

Visitors Fulham may see this as a free hit and a rare opportunity to pick up a win at Old Trafford. They have a good scoring record here but have lost 18 of their last 21 visits.

Manchester United’s 4-1 thumping of Chelsea came at a price. Antony suffered a serious-looking injury that could end his season, thus ruling him out of the FA Cup final. Luke Shaw is also a concern.

That could prompt Erik ten Hag to field a weakened team here, with Marcus Rashford, Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Rafael Varane all indispensable.

Fulham won’t have forgotten their last trip to Old Trafford. They led through Aleksandr Mitrovic until the 72nd minute when the goal scorer and Willian were sent off.

The Reds were ahead within the space of five minutes but still needed a 90th-minute goal from Bruno Fernandes to make sure. Earlier in the season, Alejandro Garnacho silenced the Cottage with a 90th-minute winner.

Although they struggle here, Fulham have scored in their last six visits. Two of those games resulted in a draw but the hosts won the other four, adding to their dominant record against the London club.

The visitors have found their shooting boots in recent weeks. With the season winding down, they’ve capitalised on slack defending to score five against Leicester, two at Southampton and two against Palace.

Despite winning 4-1 against Chelsea, United did give up several good chances throughout the game. They also seemed to lack their usual intensity.

Fulham are a much more clinical side that also have the weapons to strike on the counter. With one eye on the FA Cup, we wouldn’t be surprised to see United slip up here.
