Fulham vs Chelsea – Preview
Craven Cottage will be bouncing for the visit of West London neighbours Chelsea on Monday Night Football.
It’s eight competitive matches into the reign of Mauricio Pochettino and there’s been little to excite other than Carabao Cup success against Brighton.
Opponents Fulham are adjusting to life without Aleksandr Mitrovic and have produced a mixed bag of results so far this season.
However, the Cottagers are always tough to beat at home, unbeaten in 18 of 25, and will look to make life tough for their fragile visitors.
Victory for Fulham would represent their first back-to-back home victories over Chelsea since the 1977 season.
There’s no doubt that the pressure is mounting on Pochettino but there have also been some very small signs of progression.
Fulham’s defensive record isn’t great, and they’ve been allowing teams plenty of chances so far this season.
Chelsea have consistently struggled to take their chances, winning just twice in 20 away trips and scoring 14 goals in that run.
Last season’s visit to Fulham saw them lose 2-1 after Joao Felix was sent off and Graham Potter’s side crumbled under pressure.
That said, we think it’s only a matter of time before things start to click for a top coach like Pochettino, and Fulham haven’t been in convincing enough form to back them to win.
The hosts may be less fragile, and Craven Cottage will be electric, but Chelsea will come out fighting and a point and a good performance might be agreeable for both sides.
