Brighton vs Liverpool team news

Pervis Estupinan has been ruled out in a major blow for Brighton. He’ll join Julio Enciso, James Milner, Adam Lallana and Jakud Moder in the treatment room.

If Roberto De Zerbi rotates, Carlos Caleba could feature in midfield, with Simon Adingra, Evan Ferguson and Joao Pedro featuring in attack.

Cody Gakpo, Thiago Alcantara, Stefan Bajcetic and Ciaomhin Kelleher are unavailable due to injury, while Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones will serve a suspension.

Jurgen Klopp was able to rest Mohammed Salah and Darwin Nunez for the second half, with Trent-Alexander Arnold coming off after 63 minutes and Virgil van Dijk an unused sub.

Brighton vs Liverpool verdict

Brighton left it late to secure a point in Marseille on Thursday as Joao Pedro’s 88th-minute penalty secured a battling 2-2 draw.

It was nothing left than the Seagulls deserved, but De Zerbi’s side made yet another alarmingly slow start in defence.

Liverpool were rarely troubled by Union Saint-Gilloise but made life hard for themselves in a laboured 2-0 win at Anfield.

Goals from Ryan Gravenberch and Diogo Jota brought about their eighth win in nine in all competitions.

Brighton have trailed 1-0 inside 25 minutes in four of five, and 2-0 inside 20 minutes in their last two matches.

The slow starts are a cause for concern and has extended their sloppy defensive record to 20 goals conceded in 10 matches.

The visiting Reds have only led twice at half-time in the Premier League and they’ve conceded in the opening 45 minutes on six occasions.

With those stats in mind, backing the first goal to come inside 30 minutes is worthwhile. If you’re adventurous, then a goal inside 15 minutes will be a juicy price.

Post-European fixtures always tend to produce wild results and both defences may prove to be even more compromised than usual.

All of Brighton’s home matches this season have had over 3.5 goals with a couple featuring five. Both teams have scored at least once in Liverpool’s previous six away league games.
