Selections

As north plays south in PL week 2, all eyes will be on Eriksen as he returns to the Brentford Community Stadium. The controversy surrounding his move lingers, and I’m sure the Brentford faithful won’t let him forget it, which should add a little more spice to proceedings than normal. During the summer, Thomas has brought in Mee and Lewis-Potter to strengthen his squad, while ten Haag has made a few other signings apart from Eriksen, including Malacia and Martinez he’s still searching for replacements for the old guard whose contracts have expired.

Last week will be one to remember for Brentford fans as it is the first time they’ve come back from being 2-0 down for just over 2 years to draw 2-2 away at Leicester, conceding in the first half and then again early in the second they fought back with goals from Toney and a late equaliser from substitute Da Silva to pinch a point.

It didn’t go as planned for United on an opening day losing 1-2 at home to Brighton, thanks to a brace from Gross and United only pulling one back through a Mac Allister own goal in what was a pretty even game with chances for both sides.

Only having played each other twice in the PL, a 1-3 away win in which United didn’t really dominate but took the chances which came their way and relied heavily on de Gea to make 7 saves. The second game was a 3-0 home win with Fernandes, Ronaldo (pen) and Varane all netting in a statistically even match up.

Key stats

* United are unbeaten against Brentford (W2)

* Brentford unbeaten in last 4 games (W3,D1)

* United haven’t won in last 4 games (D2,L2)

* Brentford 55%, United 30% win rate over last 20 games

* United lost the most PL away games last season when starting as FAVs

I know the stats don’t point in the direction of a United away win but it’s still United and they still have quality and more luck than most so I’m going for a 0-2, I’m hoping for Ronaldo to play and will be on him to score the first goal if he is in the starting 11. If not my NB is Fernandes. I think United will score in both half’s and a penalty being scored by United is a good shout.
