Hungarian Grand Prix 2023 – Pirelli Tyre Trial Weekend
Pirelli have announced ahead of free practice on friday that teams will able to choose from the C3 (hard tyre), C4 (medium tyre) and C5 (soft tyre). However, in an aim to improve sustainability, teams will be given 11 sets of tyres instead of 13 & can only use the Hards in Q1, mediums in Q2 and softs in Q3. (Weather Permitting)
This is great news for Formula 1 fans! Pirelli are helping to reduce the amount of tyres used in the sport as well as improving sustainability. It will also give teams more flexibility in terms of strategy as they can use different tyres in different sessions. Let’s get ready for an exciting and sustainable Hungarian Grand Prix!
In a change to what drivers have been used to, teams will now receive 3 sets of hard, 4 sets of mediums and just 4 sets of softs.
Instead of the usual two sets of hard tyres, three sets of mediums and eight sets of softs, this weekend teams will have only four sets of the softs to play with, but gain an extra set of hards & mediums.
Why these changes?
It is hoped that the new system will not only encourage greater strategic action, but also bring greater sustainability into the sport.
It’s amazing to see innovation and sustainability come together in racing! The trial, also being implemented at the Italian Grand Prix, is a great way to reduce the amount of tyres used while also making the sport greener. If all 23 races adopted this initiative, it would save a whopping 3,680 tyres. This could open up a whole range of possibilities for race strategies and on-track battles!

Riccardo back in a red bull car
Nyck de Vries, Formula 2 and Formula Chamion, managed a great 8th finish with Williams last season, which secured him a full-time drive with AlphaTauri for 2023.
Unfortunately, he had to step down after a series of bad performances in the AT02. But we are certain that this setback will not be the end of the road for Nyck de Vries as Daniel Ricciardo’s impressive performance in the simulator last week means he will be aiming return to Red Bull in 2025.
