Following a dominant display in Hungary, Red Bull are expected to shatter more F1 records this weekend at the Belgian GP.
Max Verstappen’s latest victory means his team have now amassed 12 wins in a row, breaking a record held by McLaren for over 30 years. Red Bull will now be looking to set a new record this weekend for the most consecutive wins in a single season.
Belgian Grand Prix – Verdict
Lando Norris clinched successive podium finishes for the first time in his F1 career in Hungary, but Oscar Piastri should not be overlooked from this weekend’s race equation.
The Aussie is pushing Norris all the way and is driving with a mature driving style which makes it easy to forget that he is a rookie driver. Piastri is yet to secure a podium finish, but his first can’t be too far away.
For all of Red Bull’s strengths there is a small chink in their armour: qualifying pace. Watching Max Verstappen zoom off into the distance on race day is a very familiar sight, but the battle for pole position is not as straightforward.
Lewis Hamilton’s ability to steal P1 on the starting grid away from Verstappen in Hungary exposed this weakness and it will give other teams confidence ahead of the Belgian GP.
While Ferrari are having a challenging season, they are available at a big price to capitalise should Red Bull leave the door open again in qualifying on Friday afternoon (remember it is a sprint weekend this week).
The lengthy straights at Spa that makes it the perfect time to back Alex Albon, where he can certainly challenge for points for the fourth time this season.
This track will also be much more to Williams’ liking. Albon is the clear pick ahead of rookie team-mate Logan Sargeant to try hoover up a point or two on Sunday.
