Arabian Crown made his seasonal debut in the Classic Trial at Sandown last Friday and he left a marked impression on the Epsom Derby market too.
Drawn widest of all in the eight-runner field, William Buick bounced him out of the stalls and quickly took the son of Dubawi to the head of affairs. He never saw another rival. Bowling along in front, Buick gradually increased the tempo all the way up the long home straight at Sandown and Arabian Crown simply galloped his rivals into submission. He finished 3 1/4 lengths ahead of Macduff and he was strong through the line. Bookmaker reaction saw his Derby odds halve in price (12/1 into 6/1) and he is now firmly established as a leading contender for the Epsom Classic on Saturday, 1st June.
