SECRET SHADOW – EACH-WAY
Seventeen runners go to post in a competitive looking Old Newton Cup.
Gaassee has won four of his five career starts but is a short price at the head of the market and it could pay to look elsewhere. The Andrew Balding trained filly SECRET SHADOW is one to consider at the bottom of the weights. Her three victories have all come on ground which has been good or softer, including two victories in October last year.
She returned to action with a creditable third when beaten 0.75L over 1m6f at Goodwood in May. That was her first run of the season and she was keen early in the race. She is entitled to improve for that outing and will relish the testing conditions on offer at Haydock. Two of her victories have come over longer distances but she won over 1m3f at Windsor in June 2021.
She is likely to be doing her best work at the finish and could sneak into a place.
