1:30 Ayr – HOGAN
Best described as a modest maiden hurdle, this race looks wide open and so any significant improvement from HOGAN could be more than enough to see him get involved. He finished 5th on his debut at Warwick last month when he was held up in rear and never able to get on terms. The winner of that race, Lac De Constance (Skelton) was in the process of completing a hat-trick and was able to dictate a very slow pace in front before kicking for home off the bend. That left those in behind with no chance and he ran as well as could be expected given the way the race panned out. Given his pedigree, the step up in trip should suit and he will be a lot more street wise after his debut, which could easily see him improve on his 2nd outing.
4:10 Newmarket – PRIDE ASIDE
Racing returns to Newmarket on Tuesday for the first day of the Craven meeting and the 4:10 is one of the better 3-year-old maidens we have seen so far this season. Most of those with experience have run well, but the newcomer PRIDE ASIDE makes quite a bit of appeal. Ryan Moore has been booked for her debut by Richard Hannon and there is a fair degree of precocity in her pedigree to suggest that she is no back number on debut. Her dam made a winning debut, and she is a half-sister to a pair of Listed winners who also made promising starts to their careers. The mile trip looks a good starting point for her and from a decent draw in stall 7 she could outrun her odds on her first start.
