This race is always a good pointer to the future and there are several very nice types on show, but none more so than FILANDERER for Hughie Morrison and Nico de Boinville. He comes from a family that the yard has done exceptionally well with, a half-brother to Trigger Point and Canoodle, who both won on their debut in Bumpers for the yard and he is from the family of Marble Arch, who finished 2nd in the Champion Hurdle for the yard 20-years ago. Hughie Morrison is better known as a flat trainer, but he operates at a 22% strike rate in bumpers and so it was no surprise to see Filanderer make a winning start to his career at Warwick on New Year’s Eve.
He was very green on that occasion and did a lot wrong, but he knuckled down nicely in the closing stages to win by just over a length. That form has yet to be tested, but the time was decent and he will no doubt have learnt a lot from that first outing. At around 15/2 he makes some solid each-way appeal.
