Having finished 2nd in last seasons Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot before going on to win the Group 2 Railway Stakes at the Curragh, GO BEARS GO was one of the leading lights in the first half of last season. His form did tail off towards the end of the campaign, but that was perhaps more down to the fact that he had burst on to the scene in May as an early season type and a series of hard races had taken its toll by the autumn.
There was a doubt over whether he had trained on at 3, partly built around the fact that his Sire Kodi Bear was a better juvenile than he was a 3-year-old, but Go Bears Go put those doubts to rest with an impressive performance in the Commonwealth Cup trial at Ascot. Having briefly looked in trouble at the furlong pole, he dug in and pulled clear in the closing stages to record a 1.5 length victory over Hierachy and Ehraz, who have both run well in a Listed race at Newbury since to boost that form. Drawn in stall 10, he is next door to his main rival El Caballo in stall 11, he should be able to get into a similar positive postion to that which he enjoyed at Ascot. El Caballo has won his last 5 starts, though they have mainly come on the All-Weather over the winter, but the stats show that the higher draws are favored on the Haydock sprint track at this time of year, with 70% of winners drawn higher than stall 6 when there are more than 7-runners since 2012.
He is one of the leading hopes for the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot next month and should win this in some style if he is to realize those ambitions.
