This doesn’t look to be the deepest renewal of the Madrid Handicap, but there are a few unexposed types who could easily prove to be better than handicaps in time and none more so than WEST COAST. Aiden O’Brien’s Filly is a half-sister to Rockfel winner and Belmont Oaks 2nd, Just Wonderful and broke her maiden tag at the 3rd time of asking by making all the running in a Leopardstown maiden in October. She dominated that race under Seamie Heffernan, going on to record a 3-length victory over Joseph O’Brien’s Perfect Thunder. The conditions should suit and she has been well drawn in stall 5, which shoukd give her the perfect chance to prove that she is better than an opening mark of 97 under Ryan Moore.
